How Does Invisalign Work?

Fundamentally, Invisalign works the same way as traditional orthodontic treatment: It puts gentle, sustained pressure on the teeth to slowly move them into their ideal positions over time. The main difference is that it relies on a series of thin, plastic aligners instead of brackets and wires.

After your initial consultation, you can get started in just a couple of visits spaced several weeks apart. First, we'll take digital images and impressions to send to the Invisalign lab where your customized aligners are made. We'll also use this information to tell you how long Invisalign should take to correct your smile.

Then you'll return about 3 weeks later to pick up your first pair of aligners. After we discuss how to wear and maintain them, we'll answer any questions you have and you'll leave wearing your first set! Then you'll simply wear your trays at least 20-22 hours per day and move to a new pair every 2 weeks until you get your final results.

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

Invisalign works for a wide variety of bite alignment problems, including crowding, gaps, overbites, underbites, and more. With that said, each patient is unique and their treatment time will vary depending on their needs. However, in addition to being practically impossible for other people to see, Invisalign has the added advantage of being faster than traditional braces (on average). In fact, most people get their results in just 9-18 months, as opposed to 12-24 months for traditional braces.

What are the Benefits of Invisalign?

Most of our patients are interested in Invisalign because it isn't noticeable to other people. But you'll love the many other advantages it offers as well:

• Comfort – Invisalign aligner trays are smooth and comfortable and won't irritate your lips and cheeks like metal braces can.
• Convenience – Invisalign is flexible enough to fit your lifestyle. While you must wear your trays for 20-22 hours per day to get your results on time, you always have the option of removing them for special events like job interviews or weddings.
• Easier oral hygiene – It can be really difficult to brush and floss around metal braces, which increases the risk of cavities and gum problems after treatment. This isn't a concern with Invisalign because you'll take your trays out before brushing and flossing.
